During late summer workdays we continue looking for and pulling weeds, like Japanese hedge parsley, bittersweet nightshade, burdock, bull thistle, yellow flag iris, and maple seedlings. We'll also start collecting seeds as they ripen. We spread wood chips and mulch as necessary, and do a little brush cutting.

Dress for the weather - we work rain or shine. Dress in layers, as it can be cold and windy at one moment and then calm and sunny at another.

Long pants are just about a requirement to work inside the Sanctuary, and even if it happens to be warm or hot, long sleeves are highly recommended. Sandals and open toed shoes are NEVER a good idea; boots are a better choice. High topped rubber boots are necessary for those planning to work in or around the marsh. Hats are also recommended. We provide tools and work gloves.
